When it comes to rock bands in South Africa, Shadowclub are definitely one of my favourites. The trio have been around since the late 2000s and I’ve been very fortunate to watch them perform all over South Africa. There’s probably a few things that you did not know about this band, but my aim is to change that today.
Here are 10 Interesting Facts You Might Not Know About Shadowclub
1. Shadowclub hail from Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
2. The members of the band are Isaac Klawansky, Jacques Moolman and Louis Roux.
3. Shadowclub‘s genre of music can be described as Blues / Rock ‘n Roll. Pretty old school if you ask me – there are not many bands like this around nowadays.
4. The band planned to record their debut album in just 12 days, but completed it in 9 (and that says a lot about their attitude to music).
5. Their debut album (Guns and Money) was released in mid 2011. Their second album (Goodbye Wild Child) was released in 2013. The band released an EP in 2018 entitled Big Green Mamba Dream).
6. The band opened for Kings of Leon in 2011 at both their shows (in Cape Town and Johannesburg).
7. The band have played all around South Africa at festivals like Oppikoppi, Up The Creek and RAMFest and frequently play at venues in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town.
8. Shadowclub won the 2012 SAMA for Best Rock Album. Their 2013 album was nominated for a SAMA. They were also nominated for the 2012 MK Awards.
9. Moolman and Klawansky formed Shadowclub after the demise of their former band, Airship Orange, who had caused a splash in South Africa as much for their bad behaviour as for their music.
